Oritsefemi
Oritsefemi Oritse Femi, also known by his stage name Majemite Ekele, and born on January 5, 1985, is a Nigerian singer-songwriter and performer.
His version of Fela Kuti's "Double Wahala" song is what made him most famous.
At the 2014 City People Entertainment Awards, his performance of the song garnered him two nominations, and he went on to win the prize for Most Popular Song of the Year.
At the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards, he also took home the Indigenous Artist of the Year trophy. He released the remix for his version of the song with D'banj in 2014 as well.
Personal Life
His mother's third child, Oritsefemi, was born and raised in Ajegunle in a polygamous household of 25. He is from the North Warri Itsekiri tribe in Delta State.
He briefly attended Mayday Secondary School in Ikoyi before transferring to Tolu Primary School in Ajegunle since his parents couldn't afford the expensive tuition in the posh area of Ikoyi.
Army Children's School is where he finished his elementary schooling. He graduated from Randle Secondary School with a diploma in secondary education and applied to Delta State University in Abraka to study law, but he left to focus on his musical career.
His main influences and role models, according to him, are Sizzla Kalonji, Daddy Showkey, and Fela Kuti.
Career
He expanded his musical abilities while in school and gave performances at get-togethers and parties.
In an interview with The Punch, he revealed that "Boys dey Binu" was his very first song to be recorded (meaning Boys are not Happy). He was also an active member of the Cherubim and Seraphim choirs in Ajegunle.
He attended a Johnny Napp-run music school in Ajegunle, where Napp frequently welcomes Jamaican musicians to help develop the budding local talent.
The music school is proud to have produced 90s reggae superstars, including Baba Fryo, Daddy Showkey, and Daddy Fresh.
He noted that his time in school had given his early style of music a reggae fusion. He and his bandmate, Chibudo, both released records.
The hit song on the collection, Boys Dey Binu, used the first album's title as well. Both tracks on the second album, Money Na Time, totaled eight.
The Junglist Boys disbanded in 2006 as a result of an unreported argument between the two musicians that made up the group.
Chi-Junglist and Oritse Femi each attempted to start their own solo careers. But only Oritse Femi made a big splash right away after "Elewon" and "Flog Politician" came out.
These songs won over the hearts of young people in Ajegunle and music fans, which led to the creation of the very famous "Flog Politician" album.
However, after Oritse Femi's popular "Flog Politician" became a street song in Ajegunle, Nigeria, his companion Chibudo, also known by the stage name "Chi-Junglist," released a diss track (JMJ Quarters, Tolu, Alayabiagba, Oyewole, etc.).
The Chi-Junglist claimed that Oritse Femi was a cheat and that he should be flogged instead of a politician.
Oritse Femi did not respond to Chi's song about beef since he later released the popular single "Mama Lati," which also featured "Rocksteady," another Ajegunle artist.
People say that Chi-Junglist and Oritse Femi still don't like each other, even though their friends and acquaintances have tried to help them get along.
According to an interview with Anna Okon of The Punch, his first single as a solo artist was "Flog Politician," which was published ahead of the 2007 General Elections.
He claims that the extent of corruption in Nigeria's political system served as an inspiration for him to produce the song. Later, he released his third album, Elewon, which is English for "Chase Them."
He began singing about dishonest political figures and his desire to get them removed from the government. He addressed immorality in the world in his second solo album, Wicked World.
He claimed that the motivation behind the popular song from the album "Mercy of the Lord" came from his own encounters with material possessions and how his mother's prayers were able to save him by igniting the Spirit of God within him.
He described himself as a gospel hip-hop musician and said that he had experienced sadness while straying from his upbringing in a godly home.
Since leaving Junglist, four albums by Oritse Femi have been released. Among these albums are "Wicked World," "Musical Taliban," and most recently, "Money Stops Nonsense," which shares the moniker of his record company.
He has performed with Pasuma Wonder, Reminisce, and Da Grin. Some individuals have criticized "Money Stops Nonsense" as an album that has no other purpose than to demonstrate how much Oritse Femi can pay A-list Nigerian singers to appear on his songs because it is his most recent album (MSN), which includes a few of these artists.
The most popular track by Oritsefemi, "Double Wahala," is a cover of the same-titled Fela Kuti song. He claimed in an interview that the song was inspired by the woes of the common man in Nigeria.
He added that the song served as a constant reminder of the time he lived in Ajegunle, close to a flood zone, and had water pouring into his house. Double Wahala is the title of his third album. He released "Sexy Ladies" with Davido in 2014.
