Salim Abdul Rashid Khan is an Indian actor, producer, and television personality who appears in Hindi-language movies. His Hindi name is [slmn xn].

Khan has won various honors over the course of a more than 30-year film career, including two National Film Awards as a producer and two Filmfare Awards as an actor. He is mentioned in the media as one of Indian cinema's most financially successful actors.

Khan appeared on Forbes' lists of the highest-paid celebrities in the world in 2015 and 2018, the latter year making him the highest-ranked Indian.

Early Life

Salim Khan, a scriptwriter, and Sushila Charak, who took the name Salma, were married and had one son, Salman Khan.

Khan was raised in both religions after being born on December 27, 1965, to a Muslim father and a Hindu mother.

When Salim's parents separated in 1980 and his father married the actress Helen, the children's connection with their father deteriorated and didn't mend until years later.

However, Jasim Khan, in his biography of the actor, claims that Salman Khan's ancestors belonged to the Akuzai sub-tribe of the Yusufzai Pashtuns from Malakand in the Swat valley of North-West Frontier Province, British India.

Salman Khan's paternal great-grandparents were Alakozai Pashtuns from Afghanistan who immigrated to Indore State, Indore Residency (now in Madhya Pradesh) (present-day Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan).

Abdul Rashid Khan, his grandfather, was a deputy inspector general of the Indore state and a recipient of the Holkar era Diler Jung award.

Khan's mother is a stay-at-home mom whose Marathi mother is from Maharashtra and whose Dogra Rajput father, Baldev Singh Charak, is from Jammu in Jammu and Kashmir. Khan speaks Hindi, English, and Marathi, in addition to other languages.

Career

In the 1988 movie Biwi Ho To Aisi, Khan made his acting debut in a supporting role. Later, he starred in the romantic family drama Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), directed by Sooraj R. Barjatya, which went on to become one of the highest-grossing Indian movies of its period.

As a result, he received his first nomination for Best Actor at the Filmfare Awards, as well as a nod for Best Male Debut at the same event; Barjatya won the latter.
